Description
Wine Sherry Art – Last Day in Spain by Monica Márquez Gatica
Last Day in Spain captures a timeless moment of nostalgia, celebration, and artistry. This Wine Sherry Art piece invites viewers into a scene bathed in the warm Spanish sun, with a solitary glass of aged Sherry symbolizing the beauty of life’s fleeting moments.
Painted with my signature Hybrid Fluid Realism technique, the glass glows against a rustic table, reflecting hues of amber gold and rich mahogany. The careful balance between fluid abstraction and meticulous detail gives the painting an emotive depth that draws the viewer closer.
Sherry wine, with its ancient heritage and vibrant complexity, mirrors the very soul of Spain. As a result, this Wine Sherry Art composition speaks not only to lovers of fine art but also to collectors who appreciate history, craftsmanship, and emotion captured on canvas.
Last Day in Spain stands as both a tribute and an invitation: a reminder that every ending holds a story worth savoring. For collectors and enthusiasts of Spanish culture, wine, and artistry, this painting offers a piece of timeless beauty.

Andaluz Wine Art
As the sun gently descends, its warm golden hue casts a soft glow over the streets of Jerez. I find myself at Gallo Azul, a place brimming with memories and a deep sense of home. This was my last day in Spain, in my hometown of Jerez, just last year. Therefore, my painting “Last Day in Spain” seeks to immortalize the essence of these final, cherished hours.
Moreover, I shared this visit in my blog post “El Gallo Azul Unveiled: Part 2 – From Family Ties to Future Visions”. In that post, I delve into the deeper connections and reflect on the rich history of Gallo Azul, a place that has witnessed countless gatherings and celebrations.
The Essence of Jerez and Family
The scene captures a bottle of sherry wine, glowing with its rich amber liquid. The elegantly curved glass reflects not only the warm Spanish sun but also the deep bonds formed over shared moments with loved ones.
This art celebrates life’s simple yet profound pleasures: good company, excellent sherry, and the enduring warmth of family ties. For instance, the bottle depicted is Palo Cortado, a special variety symbolizing Jerez’s promise of both past memories and future gatherings.
Specifically, I chose Cayetano del Pino Palo Cortado Solera from Jerez. I love its dryness and complex flavor profile. This wine ages for an average of 18 years using the traditional solera system, carefully blending older and younger vintages to create a perfectly balanced and mature flavor.
As a result, every element of Last Day in Spain weaves together the spirit of tradition, celebration, and heartfelt farewell.

The Artistic Process
Creating this painting was a journey in itself. I depicted the bottle and sherry in the glass using poured liquid acrylics. This technique allows the colors to flow and blend organically, much like the spontaneous conversations and laughter shared over a drink. The glass and the intricate details, however, are rendered in traditional oil, bringing sharpness and clarity to the piece, much like the vivid recollections of my time in Jerez.
A Heartfelt Narrative
Every brushstroke in this painting is infused with the love and nostalgia I feel for my hometown. The soft glow on the bottle and glass symbolizes the golden moments spent together, the laughter echoing through the streets, and the heartfelt conversations that stretch into the evening. These moments, often taken for granted, are the pillars of our lives, holding up the very fabric of our being. Through this piece, I hope to convey the warmth and joy of these moments, encouraging others to cherish and celebrate their own.
